Every year our 4th year IB students spend two weeks in Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. They stay with host families and attend English lessons at a language school. In their free time, they also try to soak up as much Englishness as possible. Besides being out and about in Harrogate as well as visiting nearby towns and sights, they indulge in various social activities. But read what the students themselves have to say.
The following reports are a selection of texts that will be published in the annual report.
Harrogate Language Academy
Like many classes before us we too were welcomed to Harrogate Language Academy, a small but picturesque school with friendly teachers and staff members. Everything there was well organized and welcoming.
Lessons started at 9 o’clock in the morning. Unfortunately, a single lesson lasted 1.5 hours. Between the two morning lessons we were given a half-an-hour break.
After enjoying a cold lunch we sat through a last afternoon lesson and then we were dismissed to roam far and freely to our heart’s content through the wonderful streets of Harrogate.

Visit to Harrogate Grammar School
On Friday, 26 September 2014, our class was invited to visit the Harrogate Grammar school. Each of us was assigned a buddy who we spent the morning with and followed into lessons. Afterwards, we all agreed that the classes were a lot easier than what we are used to.
That Friday also happened to be the European Day of Languages. This meant that at lunch time we got to order food from different countries in the according language.
It was very interesting to see all students wearing a school uniform and to experience a completely different school system. The students were all very open towards us and did not hesitate to ask us any questions.
