On Friday, 7th of January 2022, we had our ToK day about arts. The day started off as usual with some of our book presentations. Afterwards, we started to look at arts in general. We also went to look at one artist in more detail: Harald Naegeli. We went to a museum and learned alot about him. In the afternoon, we worked on our mini-exhibitions in preperation to our real exhibition in May.
What is Art?
Art is about the relations between the viewer (you), the artist and the work.We can talk about art in many diferent aspects, for example the meaning, intention of the artist, expression of creativity and the perspective. To analyse the art, there are different approaches.
There is the intention of the Artist, which is either visible in the art, or hidden behind the artwork.
The next approach is the quality of the art. The quality determines how the viewer sees the art and how he reacts to it.
This is also linked to the response of the spectator.
Harald Naegeli
Harald Naegeli is a 83 year old man, who was imprisoned in the 1970’s for 7 years because he expressed art in another way. He sprayed on walls and his goal was, or is, to let his figures take back the place and nature. All his sprayings start from the floor and his technique is very good. He sprayes in one line and almost never stops. This is also his recognition feature.
Mini exhibition
We had the job to choose an artwork by Naegeli and write an exhibition to it. We worked in groups of two or three and handed in our exhibitions at the end of the day.
