TOK Language

Due to the coronavirus, our ToK lessons on language and communication were carried out on teams.
At the beginning of the day we looked at the criteria for the essay that we have to write on our 3 objects. In addition, we received corrections to our essays that we had written in groups during the last ToK day. It was very helpful and we now feel better prepared for what's next.
In the second part we discussed different aspects of language. What I found most interesting was, that the language changes depending on the context. E.g. a bouquet of roses: we as a society have given it the meaning of love and giving someone a bouquet shows that you value that person. While a flower growing in your garden doesn't have the same connotation.
We rounded off the day on a fun note by seeing which part of Switzerland our dialect comes from based on how we pronounce 8-10 words. I think the predictions were pretty close to reality. I, who grew up in Kilchberg, got Meilen, which is not too far away.
Although we didn't see each other personally, it was still a successful ToK day.
